Blue Line Connection

Your home for law enforcement counseling & training.
Online law enforcement counseling.
Pricing
  • Insurance – I do not accept insurance, but I will price match your insurance copay for as long as your insurance would reimburse you (with a $10 minimum charge per session), and then we will move to the regular rate.
  • Rates – Normal sessions are $50/50 minute session.
Benefits of Online Counseling
  • Non-Judgmental – I will not judge you based on your profession. As you probably know well, our current political environment is often unsupportive of law enforcement. Most counselors tend to have strong political ideologies that can impact the way they view and communicate with law enforcement. I, however, applaud your desire to make all of us safe.
  • Anonymity – I will maintain your anonymity. You are in complete control of who you chose to tell, or don’t, about your experience. You do not have to go to a superior, an EAP, or through your insurance company to get support.
  • Understanding – I understand law enforcement and the stress people in your position face daily.
  • Distance – I am probably outside of your jurisdiction. Not only will I always maintain confidentiality, I likely do not have contact with anyone in your organization.
Payment

I accept payment through a wide array of free and secure options such as:

  • Chase QuickPay with Zelle

  • PayPal

Telecounseling Tips
  • Privacy – When we are talking, be aware of where you are and who is around you. It is usually best to find a quiet, comfortable, safe space that is away from others.
  • Lighting – It is best if you have light in front of your face when we talk. Bright lights, like windows behind you, can make it hard for me to see you and your reactions.
  • Camera type – Cell phones and tablets are convenient, but usually have poor video quality, and you will not be able see me as well as you can on a larger computer screen. Computers generally have better video quality, depending on connectivity, but sometimes require external cameras to be set up.
  • Test calls – We will have a test call before our first session to ensure that our connections are good.
  • Technology failure – It is good to have a backup plan if your tech fails you, such as a secondary phone, or computer, or laptop we could talk on if you have issues.
  • Disruptions/Noise/ConfidentialityTelecounseling is nice because you can talk to me wherever you want, but be mindful of loud background noises, and family, friends, or bystanders that could bother you or overhear our conversation. This time should be dedicated to you and you should be in an environment where you feel safe to express yourself however you want. You can also help to protect your confidentiality by using white noise machines, privacy screens, and have strong password protection on all your accounts.
  • Wear earbuds – If you use you computer speakers the sound will often cause an echo on the other end. Also, earbuds help to keep you from getting distracted by outside sounds. Finally, they help to ensure your privacy because someone is much less likely to overhear what I am saying to you.
  • WiFi security – We will always use HIPAA compliant and/or highly encrypted means of communication to engage in telecounseling, however you must also be aware that your WiFi signal may have safety risks. The best way to ensure your security is to use a private WiFi network that is password protected, not a public network. Using a VPN can also help to ensure your safety.
  • Limitations of telecounseling – As convenient as telecounseling is there are some issues that can occur.
    • Body language – People don’t generally talk while their whole body is visible on camera. Body language is a large source of communication between people and this can be impacted by talking to someone over video.
    • Lost connections – It is possible that our connection will be cut during session due to a technical difficulty. You can help to lower this risk by being close to a strong WiFi connection or using a device that has an ethernet cable. We will also have a test call to ensure that the technology works before our first session. In addition, it is best if we have at least two ways to have a video connection, so that if one fails we can use the other. We will work together to find apps or programs that are free and secure and I have resources to help us.
